pistakam | Web Design
Figma, Adobe Illustrator
BACKGROUND: pistakam is a small, independent bakery that reimagines traditional Indian desserts through modern cake design. The name “pistakam,” meaning “cake” in Sanskrit, reflects the brand’s roots and mission — to celebrate Indian flavors in new, unexpected ways. The bakery combines nostalgic flavors like cardamom, pistachio, and saffron with playful, over-the-top designs that feel both familiar and fresh.DESIGN PROBLEM: Most brands offering Indian-inspired flavors tend to focus on traditional presentation or minimalist aesthetics. I wanted to create a brand would feel fun, playful, and deeply rooted in heritage while standing out in the modern dessert scene.
DESIGN PROCESS: The design process began with research into Indian names for sweets and followed with imagining color palettes and typefaces to match. I wanted the website to feel whimsical, a landing space that was soft and inviting. From there, I created wireframes in Figma to imagine a customer’s journey through the website, deciding which links to highlight at the top or relegate to the footer and creating an overall layout that focused heavily on images, collecting orders, and purchasing products.
DESIGN SOLUTION: The final identity for pistakam is bright, charming, and full of whimsy. The logotype is modern and approachable, paired with a color palette inspired by pistachio green, rose pink, cocoa brown, and kulfi cream. The typeface used for the logo is Gulax, for headers is MuseoModerno, and for body text is Azeret Mono.
